This was a very special engagement session for me! Todd is one of our best friends. We met him when we lived in Colorado. Seth and Todd have been on a MANY fishing trips together and tied many flies together over at our house. Todd is like family to us. Actually, our daughter Grace calls him Uncle Todd. Well since we moved to Maryland 2 years ago, we have since introduced him to a FANTASTIC girl out here Heather. We of course cant take all the credit, but we did double date to introduce them :) NOW THEY ARE GETTING MARRIED! I am thrilled to be shooting their wedding in June, and my wonderful assistant Mandy will be shooting the reception for me so I can actually enjoy the big event with our dear friends. Congrats Todd and Heather we love ya~

Today I was a guest at a wedding instead of the photographer! It was really nice to be able to sit and watch 2 people get married and not have worry about making sure I am "getting all the shots" I did however bring my NEW TOY. I got a D300 and have loved the High ISO shooting. For those of you who are photography buffs, these were all shot with no flash, ISO 1600-3200. At 2000 ISO I was able to stop motion, no flash in a fairly dark ceremony. I am pretty thrilled with this new camera. Nikon you ROCK. Coupled with the 1.8 fast lens, I can not WAIT to see what kind of images we pull off this year! MY season kicks off on March 29th! Congrats to Heather and Mandy for your first Solo flight as well as most importantly Congrats to Matt and Emily and their new life together!

You can see from this shot that I was sitting in the way back, this is the preferred seating of a person with 2 children in attendance under the age of 4.

Emily looked GORGEOUS. She looked fabulous in her dress...absolutely gorgeous!

I love the look on Matt's face here, pure, simplistic, joy.

I love this one even though it was really bright coming through the doorways. Matt is somewhat of a wise guy, he is really funny and has this great witty humor, I think I like this one because it looks like he just said something to his guys right as they were walking in...wonder what it was!

It is so fun being a wedding photographer and I love my job, but a consistent thing that I hear from people when I tell them what I do is “Oh my how cool is that, you only work on Saturday for 8 hours”

Well this blog post is inspired by the misconception people have about wedding photographers. YES IT IS FUN, anyone who knows me knows that I love what I do, but I still have to work in order to insure that my clients get the highest quality product.

I have outlined for you what a typical workflow is for ONE WEDDING so as you read this keep in mind that in order to get a full picture of what I do multiple that by however many weddings per year (20-25).

You want to make sure when you are hiring someone that you are confident not only in their skills as a photographer, but also knows how to run and organize a business! It is important to have someone who is organized, efficient, and quick to respond to your needs on the wedding day as well as manage your files happily ever after!

WORK FLOW FOR ONE WEDDING

BOOKING PROCESS
Initial meeting with couple
Type information into a contract, scan contract, email it to clients
Sign returned contract and scan and send to client
Go to bank to deposit retainers

PRE WEDDING DAY PREP
Type up itineraries from Wedding Planning Worksheet
Email exchanges from bride and groom to finalize details
Charge batteries
Clean cameras and lenses (a trip to the camera store) prep and pack equipment
Print directions to all venues

WEDDING DAY
Drive time-leave early to factor in any traffic
Day of coverage (my average package is 8-10 hours)
Drive time home
BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP-download images when I get home to be sure I have 2 copies of everything before I go to bed, so in the wee hours of the am I am at my computer

EDITING PROCESS (after the wedding)
Organize into folders about 800 images
Delete images with eyes closed or out of focus shots
Photoshop, edit, rename files and burn to disc as well as backup on hard drive
Choose photos for a slideshow, download and host up on website
Upload images onto Collages.net

DEVELOPING PHOTOS
Upload to Printing company
Order proofs
Go through proofs once in house and organize into packaging
Package up images write a thank you card
Go to post office to mail and insure

ALBUM DESIGN
Design mock album (several hours)
Upload to host for viewing
Email back and forth with Bride and Groom re edits
Edit any changes to be made to layout
Order-upload to album printing company
Drop ship to client once completed

THE END ☺

The outline just shows the workflow for one wedding, it does not include the other things that I have to do like, return email inquiries, send out information packets, marketing, reprint orders, ordering supplies, keeping up my quickbooks accounting system, engagement sessions, children and family sessions and all the fun stuff that comes with each job.

The joy in all this is that the majority of my job I can do from home. Where I can take care of my 2 little bundles of joy that God has blessed us with! I wouldn’t trade that for the world. I also get to exercise the art of photography which is WHAT I LOVE. I get to practice my artistic expression on a weekly basis. It is kind of like a painter, getting to paint all the time, or a song writer writing for a living. I love this gift that I have been given… the ability to capture moments in time, in peoples lives, memories that are forever captured on film is priceless. For this I am THANKFUL!

I look forward to my “Season” starting at the end of March. Until then, its back to all the 5 albums I have in line to design…

Our sweet friend bought this for Abigail from Highland county VA. (The farm we went to last 4th of July) It is so sweet and has kept her little head very warm these past few cold days.
On a side note, I am thankful to say we are all feeling better :) Abby did NOT get sick...that in and of itself is a miracle! We are so thankful!

Having a newborn has kept me a little more homebound than normal. My wedding season picks up FULL SWING in March, I am fully booked May June and most of July so if you are thinking of calling me, do it quick! I cap off at a certain number of weddings each year to ensure that I don't burn out and to make sure that each couple gets 110% of me! Ok so what do you get when you have a man who loves to fish and hunt, in a house full of girls? Dress up...thats about it! The little pop gun is what Grace picked out for Daddy at the "shooter store" (thats what she calls anything camouflaged: shooter pants, shooter hat, shooter boots). When asked if she wanted to go hunting in the woods with Daddy, she waved her hand in front of her nose and said "No, I don't want to smell that thing on the deer" (then proceeded to point to her bottom) Come to find out she was talking about the deers rear end...what a girl...Thats ok though, because if you know Grace, I don't think she could stay quiet for 1/2 a minute in the woods!

I am excited to say I have been working with PAPER IN THE PARK on a labeling project. They helped me to come up with a packaging idea for my proof boxes. We are proud to annouce the arrival of our newest little girl Abigail Kate Richardson. She came into this world on November 1st at 10:17 pm weighing 6lbs 14oz. She blessed us with her presence almost 3 weeks early. She is doing well and we are enjoying having her here. Grace has been a sweet big sister and loves her to death. God is so good to us to give us this new little life. I marvel at His ability to create such a little bundle of joy.

Note to clients: I will be returning emails and working on finishing up orders and such By the end of next week. I am on a mini maternity leave with orders and will be taking a few months off weddings picking back up full swing in the SPRING. I will be setting appointments in the meantime for 2008 bookings :)

Queen Annes Farm

Yesterday we went to Queen Annes Farm for a field trip with our little home pre-school group. It was so much fun. They got to learn about the Harvest, and farming and making Corn meal out of corn. They really did a great job. First they dug up potatoes, then they made corn husk dolls, then a hay ride, a lesson on making corn meal and gathering nuts. Then they got to play in the fields and bring home their very own pumpkin. It was so much fun. This shot is my favorite. It is all the girls in her "class" playing leap frog over the pumpkins. I guess this was Grace's first official field trip! Thanks to Mommy Grace David for planning it!

What a way to end this years wedding season. Since I am now due in 5 1/2 weeks, I have not booked anymore weddings for 2007. I am however booking up fast for 2008 so call me SOON if you are interested ;) I will still be in the office and finishing album orders, photo sessions and meeting with clients but this was my last wedding until 2008.

Chris and Jessica are so sweet together. This wedding was really beautiful down to the finest detail. The sweetest thing about the whole day is that is was such a peaceful event, a time for good friends and family to share in their celebration and that was evident. I don't know if it is extra hormones or what but I cried 3 times at this wedding. Once when Jessica walked down the isle, at her Moms toast and when she danced with a very dear man in her life (Greg), all of which were done in memory of her Father who is no longer with us. There was not a dry eye in the place, it was really a special event.

Tom and Laura got married on September 29th at the Chartwell Country Club. It was fun to shoot this wedding because I know Laura from one of our good friends. The day was beautiful and Laura looked fantastic. Her Daddy gave her a sweet toast that made me cry! He talked about how he remembers like it was yesterday how she clung to his leg and said "No Daddy I don't want to go" as he dropped her off at Kindergarten. He said it seems like in a blink of an eye he is walking her down the isle, this time she was not clinging to his leg and she was gladly willing to go. You know it is really hard to take pictures while you are crying. What a sweet toast. Congrats Tom & Laura!

This was one of my favorite weddings of all times. As soon as I met Brandon and Juliet I knew I was going to enjoy shooting their wedding. They are both very artistic and have shared many fun adventures together, they love to travel and hike and are just really down to earth. I have to say...this was my favorite dress...it was perfect for her and she looked absolutely amazing in it. I find it funny that both of them said "we are not very photogenic" WHAT?!?! They were both VERY EASY to photograph!

They got married down in Fells Point and
had their reception at The Baltimore Museum of Art.

Some friends and I decided that we would do a small little preschool type thing with our kids every Thursday. Our kids are all 3 and so we thought this would be a fun alternative to preschool. This Thursday was our first one. The kids had fun. Each month we will rotate whose house it is at, this week was mine. We will learning things like letters, sounds, Bible Stories and all sorts of fun arts and craft type things. They were so cute I just wanted to eat them up. Had to of course take their picture!

Daniel and Gabriella had a great wedding day on Friday. These are some of the nicest people I have ever met, everyone was so pleasant to be around. To give you a small idea of how sweet Gabriella is, during the receiving line I could overhear her saying something to each one of her guests, like "oh hows your foot healing, or oh you got a haircut, hows your sister doing...ect" Even on her big day it was evident to me she was thinking about other people. A dear friend of ours let us stay at her beach house. What a blessing it was to us to have a few days away from the hustle and bustle of life. We enjoyed being together as a family. I was not the official photographer for this wedding, so it was kind of nice to enjoy a nice day with no responsibilities. I did however have to photograph my girl. I didn't get any shots of Bev & Jeremy together as the photographer was pretty strict with his "no photography please" policy. The Orioles Game

Ok on Saturday night, Seth and I had the time of our lives at the Orioles game. Now we have been to 3 games before, BUT THIS TIME it was different! Friends of ours gave us tickets and we sat in the VIP section field box. We were one row away from the dugout. They cleaned our seats for us, we had cushioned seats and cup holders (notice all the things girls notice at a game) We are talking sweet seats....we will never be able to watch a game the same again...We were in between home plate and the dugout on the first base side. I was having so much fun, when we tied it up in the 9th inning to go into extra innings I was so excited cause I didn't want to leave those seats :) It is THE WAY TO WATCH A GAME FOLKS! I rank it up there as one of my favorite all time dates! Thanks to our friends who gave us the tickets! Your the best!

PS The Orioles came back to win it in that extra inning!

Update on Brooke

Thank you for all the emails and prayers for Brooke. I figured I would post an update on Brooke here.

Brooke had surgery last night and did really well. After the surgery the doctors had x-rayed the affected lung and it was 1/4th of the size of the "normal" lung. A few hours later they x-rayed again and the lung was the same size as the "normal lung". The doctors are stumped as to how this could happen, they have no explanation, as this is not the norm, a true miracle.

She does have some air pockets they are watching closely to make sure they go away on their own, if not they will have go in again.

It is so great to rest in the fact that God has this all covered, this is not a surprise to Him, this is not out of His control, He never slumbers or sleeps. He is with that little sweet thing day and night. Even when we grow faint and weary, and tired, He does not!

Brooke Sroka

Please pray for Brooke Sroka. Our dear friends Josh and Mandy had baby Brooke on Wednesday and she was immediately taken from them to the NICU with a Diaphragmatic Hernia. Her stomach and intestines had developed up in her lung which have not allowed her left lung to develop fully. She was taken from Anne Arundel Medical to a hospital in Baltimore. Mandy still has to recover from the C-Section and has not been able to be with the baby. She had about 5 pictures on her wall of the baby, but really has not been able to do the formal "mama's inspection" of her little eyelashes, toes and fingers. So we went up to the hospital where Brooke is, took some pictures and got them printed for Mandy. Please pray for her as she has to go into surgery today or tomorrow.

This Fourth of July we got the privilege to hang out with the Dellas and Friends at their parents Farm in Virginia. We had a great time, it was so peaceful and relaxing. We got to experience some good ole small town livin, by riding in the Fourth of July Parade. They have a small parade and then gather for homemade ice cream and cookies after. The greatest thing about it is that it takes minimal organization, people show up, the kids March about 1/8th of a mile and everyone brings cookies and ice cream. Good times. Grace was in heaven, with 6 older kids to play with and a LOT of acres to roam. They have this golf cart they like to ride around on, hay bales, cows, a creek, and a little house on the prarie type log cabin, just the right size for the girls to play in. It was really fun! Thanks to the Hamiltons for having us! We will be back...watch out...we are addicted!

Ok so I have some good news and some bad news....the good news first...

I have so many people visiting my website and that is encouraging that people are enjoying my work.

Now for the bad news...

I have had SO MUCH TRAFFIC...I have exceeded the Bandwidth limit!? Which means the traffic coming in and out of my site has been so large I have been shut down...I am in the process of fixing it right now with my service provider...

Graces Nana sent her a wedding dress-up outfit for her birthday. I think she had it on for 48 hours straight, until we had to pry it off of her.

I had yet ANOTHER GREAT COUPLE to photograph on Saturday. I tell you, I have the best job in the world. I get to be around some really neat people on one of the most important days of their lives. They were so relaxed and really all the planning they did paid off. Everything was wonderful. We had fun in downtown Baltimore first at the Basilica, then at the Marriot Waterfront hotel. Thanks for yet another great wedding. I was highly impressed! Call me when its Eric and Liz's turn!

Mike and Amanda got married on June 2, 2007 at the Tremont Grand in Baltimore. It was an elegant event and a pleasure to photograph. Mike and Amanda actual had a photographer booked (a good one too) and the photographer got pregnant with Triplets, so she had to find another, I am so glad that you found me and that I had the date available!! What a great wedding! Sam and Heather actually go to our church so it was extra special that they had me photograph their day. They are so naturally in love, the day just seemed so right. It had the hometown, great outdoors, surrounded by all their loved ones feel...They had a tent out back , and behind the church is a cow pasture, and of course it was so great that the cows made their appearance (per request of the bride and groom and thanks to the dear neighbor he had them out for them). Simply Elegant~I am so excited for them to start their new life together.

Keith and Kelly were such a sweet couple. Kelly is quite gifted in Wedding Planning and should consider a career in event planning. It was flawless. 2007 Bookings

I am happy to say that our move to Annapolis Maryland has been a great one this year. We love our church, we love our neighbors and we love the area. My business has been booming and I am just writing to say I am at full capacity for 2007! I have a set limit as of bookings I will take a year and I have already reached full capacity. I will no longer be taking any more weddings in 2007, but have plenty of 2008 dates available.

I have already booked dates in April, May and June of next year (2008). So if you are considering choosing Stacy Richardson Photography for you wedding day needs CALL SOON! Dates are going fast!

Can you say sweetest couple ever! Ok I know I say that a lot, but these guys are really super sweet and super in love. They are so easy to photograph. They treated me more like I was their longtime friend as opposed to their photographer. Their wedding day was beautiful, from the Location, to the dresses, to ACE OF CAKES (The guy from the tv-show made their cake) and the grand ending, the fireworks!

I am so glad they chose me as their photographer, I am even more excited that they will be living in the area, so when babies come...I can take their cute pictures too! Thank you for including me in your day!

David and Donna were one of the sweetest couple I have ever worked with. They were so laid back and so in love and really focused on their guests enjoying themselves. What a beautiful, classy celebration. You may be asking why would I post a picture of a Cure it band as a wedding photo? As Wedding Favors, David and Donna gave cure it bands and a donation to the American Cancer Society in loving memory of her mom who had passed away from cancer just 2 months prior to their wedding. What a sweet blessing.

John C. Astle, Senate of Maryland

While out on our engagement shoot this evening, we met John C. Astle who is on the State Senate in Maryland. He was outside enjoying the fresh air on his front porch. He and his wife were very sweet and even allowed us in his back yard for some garden pictures! What a nice guy! I had to snap this one of he and his wife!

Drew and Jessi were married at Chesapeake Bay Beach Club and it was a beautiful day for them. The forecast called for rain all day but it held off and ended up being a beautiful spring evening! Jessi looked stunning. Drew and Jessi are our friends (and neighbors) and it was so fun for me to be a part of their big day. Drew gave Kayla (she is 4) a sweet necklace to include her in the ceremony. I told him it was not a good idea to make the photographer cry when she is trying to take pictures! It was so sweet. Nothing really, except they describe my life for the past few weeks...For my regular readers (or staulkers as my friend Lauren likes to call herself) I feel like I needed to explain why I have been slackin in the posting department. Well let me explain, I do have a good excuse...

First off we had an ice storm which hit us Valentines Eve and left us without power for Valentines Day. I don't mind not having electricity, actually it was nice not having the phone ring, having to check emails, music or tv. It was just us. Thankfully Seth and I got our cups of coffee BEFORE the power went out. Once the evening came it was 24 degrees outside and we were COLD...so we headed to our good friends house for some FIRESIDE fun...at 9pm the electricity came on in our house and we were able to sleep in our warm beds. Unfortunately of the 70,000 people that lost power, 44,000 still do not have power today..and may not tomorrow :(

The second photo, well...lets just say once you've gone MAC you'll never go back...we have officially crossed over to a MAC for my business...all I have to say is WHY DIDNT WE DO THAT SOONER! This machine ROCKS...I am excited to start my wedding season full on....I have been busy trasferring files and weddings to the new system...no time to post!

And Finally, the most exciting news is my LITTLE girl is now potty trained...we decided that we would try it for a week, see how she did and go from there...well, the first day lets just say I was ready to give up, the second day, still ready to give up after all the laundry I had done thus far (maybe 15 pairs of pants?) The THIRD DAY she went all day with NO ACCIDENTS...since that day we have had maybe 2 accidents and she is fully trained! That in and of itself took ALL OF MY TIME :)

Sorry I havent been around I promise stick around, once I am done learning how to ride my new MAC bike, I will get back to posting!

Visiting Friends and Firetrucks

We drove down to Fairhope to visit Seths good friends from college. It was great to be with them. These shots are of Slade and Wendys kids, Slade Mitchel and Mary Broxton. Slade owns a firetruck company and let us ride in the firetrucks :) It was fun! Of course I can't resist taking photos of these little sweet ones.

Mr Joe, enjoyed watching the kids ride. The horses are out at his house. Grace went with Nana to feed the horses and she loved it, when she got to Mr Joes she said "E-I-E-I-O" (Mr joe lives out in the country. I guess she thought it was a farm!

So I bet you thought you were going to see an actual family photo...oh no, it's even better than that...this is a picture Grace drew on a chalkboard we have. When I asked her what she was drawing she said "Papa, Mama and Grace, mama is hungry, she eat hamburger" (the little orange thing is supposed to be my plate) when I asked her where we all were she replied "a swimming pool" ! New Macro Lens

I bought the Nikon 105 2.8 Macro VR lens yesterday and I am pretty excited about it. It lets you zoom in really close on all the details of life. This photo is one of Seth's "flies" he is a fly fisherman and ties flies to fish with. This little ity bity thang catches some pretty large fish! (see that hun I am braggin on ya)
